A new battleground opens up between Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin.
Introducing South West’s own Wave of the Winter! A showdown born to celebrate the Indian Ocean at its wildest, and the hellmen and women willing to take it on!
From June 1st to August 31st, surfers of all sizes will chase down the season’s rawest moments, armed with nothing but paddle power, grit, and a filmer brave enough to take on winter's wild weather.
Board Store is proud to present this new platform. A competition built to reward the surfers who take on the most challenging conditions and continue to push the limits of what’s possible.
This event celebrates true courage, raw skill, and local pride. It’s designed so everyone has an equal shot at glory, no matter who you are or what you ride.

How to Enter
Think you’ve got the Wave of the Winter? Here’s how to lock in your shot at glory:
Step 1: Surf it
- Catch and ride your best wave anywhere between Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin.
- Paddle-in waves only — no tow-ins allowed.
Step 2: Film it
- Get the ride filmed by a mate, filmer, or bystander (make sure they know what they’re doing!).
- To enter, you must submit raw, unedited footage in .MOV or .MP4 format with a preferred frame rate of 25fps, other fps allowed*.
Step 3: Submit it
- Fill out the official entry form (found below).
- Upload your raw clip.
- Post your wave to Instagram, tag @board.store, and use the hashtag #BoardstoreWOW25.
Step 4: You're In
- Once submitted, your wave is officially entered.
- Judges will review all entries and shortlist the best rides for public voting and final judging.
How Judging Works
Wave of the Winter 2025 will be judged in two stages
Stage 1: Top 5 Shortlist
Our official judging panel will review all entries and select the Top 5 finalists for each division:
- Men’s Wave of the Winter
- Women’s Wave of the Winter
- Grom's Wave of the Winter
- Wipeout of the Winter
Stage 2: Final Judging + Public Vote
- For Men’s, Women’s, and Groms' divisions, the winners will be decided by a combination of judges’ scores and public votes.
- Wipeout of the Winter will be decided 100% by public vote.
